Last night, March 31, 2009, I came across a little blurb on Google about CADIE, the answer to all our problems. Apparently, for April Fools, they have announced this artificial intelligence "being" that loves pandas and is going to take over everything.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;She has a google web page at: &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://cadiesingularity.blogspot.com/"&gt;http://cadiesingularity.blogspot.com/&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I created a web page for her at:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.hellodcadie.com"&gt;http://www.hellodcadie.com&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;and a squidoo page:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.squidoo.com/hellocadie"&gt;http://www.squidoo.com/hellocadie&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; I am trying to see if I can get first page presence in a day on Google because of the buzz they have created and see if I can actually make a buck or two with my CafePress CADIE merchandise. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is a marketing experiment/test. Can I really do what I tell people is possible. Find a niche/trend and capitalize on it. What are we to do? Answer the call by adding more value. MUCH more value, in some cases. But the catch is, they don't have to be YOUR bonuses!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Russell is getting other people to provide bonuses for people who buy his product. This is a winwin for Russell, because he gets a free bonus to advertise. It is a winwin for the person providing the bonus, because they get to "Piggyback" on Russell's marketing. If you hear the audio or watch their video or read their ebook, chances are you will like their information and will actually pay for their stuff next time it is offered.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, what is the takeaway here? who is in your industry or a complimentary industry that you can offer their goods or services as a "bonus" to your clients? Think creatively and make Joint Ventures with other businesses in your area. Video store &amp;amp; Pizza place. Hair Salon &amp;amp; Bridal gown place. Florist and candy shop. the possibilities are endless.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2) Remember what I said about Russell raising prices and I got something for $20 that he now sells for $200? Well, now he is giving it away now! The latest bonus he is offering is the "12 month millionaire." Great information if you are doing any kind of direct marketing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He will probably offer it as a series of mp3 downloads. I have listened to all 6 hours 6 or 7 times through. Oops, did I already say that?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I joined traffic geyser a month ago and didn't do anything with it, so finally, today (after they billed me) I decided to send a few videos out. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For those of you who don't know, Traffic Geyser is a video sharing platform where you can upload your video once and send it out to over 20 different video, podcast, blogs, and bookmarking sites. Very Cool.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I posted two videos from a product launch I am working on and they were posted to 15 sites AND launched an RSS feed. We recently posted a video on YouTube.com for a client. It got 150 views in 2 weeks with no other promotion! It has had over 600 views to date.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can have a link to the web site in the description and the videos are also posted on the web site which makes it "stickier" and more fun to visit.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The videos don't have to be fancy. They can be of you sitting at your desk. No big deal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let us know if we can help. It was fantastic. I learned so much that will take our business to the next level. The amount of brain power (even after all the alcohol) and money and marketing chops on stage was mind boggling.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was running around with my little disposable camera (my digital one was recently stolen), shooting one-handed pictures with all the speakers. I will post them as soon as I "get them back." (Remember one-hour photo? That used to be fast!)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anyway, it was a wild ride! Met great people from all over US and the world; a nice couple from the UK, an Aussie living in Japan, a guy from Arizona who spends most of his time adventuring in Latin America. Great crowd.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It gave Barry (business partner) and I the kick in the pants to get our act together. During the next several months, we won't be soliciting business, but will be putting our collective knowledge together into an "Internet Marketing for Small Business" home study course.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Small business owners have small budgets, but every small business really needs to be online. There should be no question about that. this home study course will address that for small business owners that want to do it themselves to save money.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, we are putting together a step-by-step "This is how you market your small business on the internet" with videos and everything. We should have it ready in the next couple of months. I worked in editorial graphics at a newspaper for 7 years. I know what these guys are talking about.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My personal angst has faded, but talk about a great way to get into the minds of the people you are sending your press releases to, hoping to get published. They are people just like us. We should treat them that way. Be reasonable. Do most of the work for them. Make your story a no-brainer to print. Make it exciting and newsworthy. We hear these things all the time, but &lt;a href="http://angryjournalist.com/"&gt;angryjournalist.com&lt;/a&gt; really brings the point home.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What are we supposed to do? Know our market? They &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;are&lt;/span&gt; our market when we are trying to get information about our company published. Let's understand them, step in their shoes and speak to them like they should be spoken to. They are the keepers of the gate. I am sorry. I meant "Bonanza." Frank Kern's Mass Control Bonanza.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am so late writing about this. It has been over a month since I started the course and it is absolutely fantastic. A gentleman (read: surfer dude that tries to look lazy, but I know he is working his butt off) named Frank Kern launched a class in early February. He is the guy behind the stompernet launch and several others including pipeline profits. They all made over a million dollars within the first week of launching. I watched stompernet happen and was captivated. It was so good, but I didn't have a penny to buy that class.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When I heard that Frank was the guy behind the stompernet launch, I knew I just had to know what he knows and I had to get the course. Luckily, I had the cash this time to get it. (I still had to take the three payment option). Frank broke the class down into 4 modules that were taught over 4 weeks. There is a mountain of content and he is teaching things I have never heard before. Usually with stuff like this, you get recycled information that has been around forever, but not this time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mass Control is extremely useful. I haven't made any money directly from it yet, but my mailing list is growing, my web site functions better, I am working on a digital product - several actually, and I have helped a few of our clients improve their campaigns using information I have learned from Frank. I am much more confident when I am making presentations, now because I have my "Character" and "Story" together. So, I guess I have made money from what I have learned because my advice to my clients is better and they pay me. Cool.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am available to consult and assist anyone that needs help with their online marketing. I have a "4-day cashflow machine" that you might have heard of from other bloggers. It has made thousands of dollars for, I don't know, 30-40 people since the start of the course (and they are just getting a small percentage of the money being generated). Our first client's web site has been online for 20 days. He already ranks #1 on Google for "Powder coating Redlands" and for several other communities they serve. He is on the first page of Google for a handful of other powder coating keywords. This stuff really works.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As a web designer, I would never tell my clients that I would guarantee placement on the search engines. I always suggested putting their url on everything they printed because "the small guy doesn't have a chance to show up well in the search results." Well, things have changed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I spent the past two years learning SEO and internet marketing and now I am seeing the fruits of those labors. Think of the last few purchases you made. How might you have been persuaded? What information did you use in considering your options? Did you have lunch today at a place that had a big sign that drew your attention? Did you see a billboard on the way to work and make up your mind that you had to have seafood today? Were you drawn in by the smell of a great local BBQ and couldn't get you mind off of beef brisket until after you washed it down with a coke?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Take a few minutes and try to think of the last time marketing influenced your buying decisions? How did it work? Why did it work? Now share with the group.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;font-size:130%;" &gt;This is what I wrote back:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;Just the other evening I made a purchase, swayed by great internet marketing. I wanted to buy this product so much I kept all the advertising/marketing material so I could study it and see why it worked so well.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I haven't studied it in depth yet, but I can tell you this off the top of my head: The invitation was from a marketer who's opinion I respect. There is a bit of trust there. Also, they introduced scarcity. The offer was only good until midnight. If I bought the information product from an affiliate, the marketer who's newsletter I receive would throw in a free copy of his soon-to-be published book.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;They built it up so much that I just knew it would cost a fortune, but it was just $37. I was so shocked by the price, I just had to get it. I study these types of internet offers to see how they do it and usually don't end up buying the products because they are too expensive. but this product was a good fit and the price was right. I could get the add-on for free, but only before midnight. They did a great job selling me.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then, get this, after I bought it, the "thank you" page had a video from the guy trying to upsell me on the long lost manuscript that the product I had just purchased was based on for $297. Valiant try but no thank you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then the next page had another youtube video selling the hardcopy version of the mp3s and e-book I had just purchased. Price: $297.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I got out of there only spending $37 and am happy with my purchase. They knew what they were doing and really pushed my buttons. That stuff used to annoy me because I don't like being manipulated, but now I enjoy it. You can click on it to view the image better.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't it look like Buzz Lightyear is ready to haul off and hit this kid? Maybe he is and maybe someone took a picture of it, but I don't think the "Happiest Place On Earth" should use it in their advertising.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We tend to see only what we want to see in photos and in our advertising. Always have an impartial third-party check things out before it goes live. Then LISTEN TO THEM.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For example, I recently worked for a large home builder as their internet marketing specialist for a couple of years. Our outside agency came up with a campaign that said our company will "throw you a bone," meaning that we were offering great deals to home buyers. The sales and marketing managers loved it. The ad had a cute little doggie and a big bone on it and everything.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Several people including myself suggested that "throwing someone a bone" might be taken as a little condescending, but no one listened and the ad was published. They just don't speak to me. However, I came across one today that I thought I would share. In fact it motivated me to actually start this blog. I see good and horrible examples of marketing online all the time and don't have anyone to share it with. Thus the blog. I hope you enjoy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was on Thesaurus.com looking for other ways to say "people." There are a lot by the way, but none as easy to use as just saying "people." there was a banner ad for Microsoft's "live search" product. It said, "Top 10 shark infested beaches." Come on, what guy is not going to click on that!? I &lt;a href="http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=top+10+shark+infested+beaches&amp;amp;FORM=MOCAZA&amp;amp;mkt=en-us"&gt;clicked&lt;/a&gt; and it went to a search page that had search results for - you guessed it - the top ten shark infested beaches.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What a great campaign for a search company. Have banners for "world's worst hair-dos" or "what I shouldn't wear to the beach this summer" for the women and, I don't know, "autopsy results" or something gross for the guys.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anyway, good job Microsoft.
